Review these patency capsule instructions before your procedure. Following them helps ensure a safe and effective evaluation of the digestive tract.

DAY 0
  • Begin a clear liquid diet from 12 p.m. (examples: water, clear broths, apple juice, tea or coffee without milk or cream, Jello, popsicles, clear sodas).
  • Do not eat or drink anything after 10 p.m.
DAY 1
  • At your morning appointment with Manhattan Gastroenterology you will be ingesting the capsule.
  • After ingestion abstain from eating or drinking for another two hours.
  • After four hours please return to a regular diet.
  • We will provide an X-Ray Abdomen referral to Lenox Hill Radiology.
    • The referral will have their office sites and phone numbers.
    • A medical assistant will help you schedule the X-Ray study.
    • The timing is important: The X-Ray study should be done 24 hours after ingestion (no later than 30 hours). Please plan accordingly.
  • We will set up a telemedicine appointment with your GI provider for Day 3.
DAY 2
  • Perform the abdominal X-Ray.
DAY 3
  • Review your results via Telemedicine with your GI provider.
  • When appropriate your provider will coordinate the standard video capsule endoscopy study.
